New Internet Engineering 2 Course Approved for “g” Elective Credit!

Congratulations to Yolo County Regional Occupational Program (ROP) for fantastic leadership in receiving “g” elective credit for the new Internet Engineering 2 course from the University of California Office of the President!

Approval of this course is critical for students to have the knowledge and skills to understand and operate networks that operate throughout California in most organizations. The 21st century economy runs on digital networks. School Boards across the state are looking to adopt courses that are integrated and that prepare students for both college and careers.

A Rigorous Course Sequence for the Networking Pathway

The Internet Engineering 2 course aligns with the Internet Engineering 1 course that was approved for “g” elective credit this past December. It is designed to prepare students for post-secondary success in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) field. The course engages students with studies of: the network protocols which make the Internet possible; how networks communicate with one another, methods used to increase scalability, reliability, and security in the modern network, and college and career preparation in the ICT field. This course integrates the theory and application of network communications, exposing students to media that invites them to consider how Internet engineers think, design, and solve problems. Students have several opportunities to produce college-ready writing, collaborate, research, develop study skills, and develop 21st century skills in this course.

Teacher Led

This course was developed through collaboration of professional educators who each have a strong background in instructing in networking communications technologies and who wanted to develop a rigorous course that prepared students for college-level content and writing. Special thanks to CISCO for supporting the development of this course and for the exceptional leadership provided by David Bayne, Woodland Joint Unified School District and Yolo County ROP; Ben Crosby, Senior Program Associate with ConnectEd; and Richard Grotegut, Director of the CISCO Western Academy Support and Training Center at Ohlone College in Fremont.

Industry Certification Aligned

Students who take Internet Engineering Courses 1 and 2 will also be prepared for the CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry-level Network Technician) certification. The exam for this is ICND 1.
