Computer Programming and Game Design Course Approved as a MATH Elective

The University of California Office of the President has approved (a-g) a course for the Manteca Unified School District ROP entitled Computer Programming and Game Design as a Math Elective.  This has been a joint effort between the Game Design instructors and their industry partners, incorporating a variety of math, art, and gaming psychology into a yearlong comprehensive course that examines the multitude of disciplines within the game design industry.

New Career Technical Education (CTE) standards for Game and Simulation were recently included in both the Arts Media and Entertainment and the Information and Communication Technologies sectors to provide standards for those students who create digital art and for students who use the digital art in Games.

For more information about this course, or to request a copy of the course outline, email Kenneth (Scott) Myers, Business/CTE Department Chair at Lathrop High School, at kmyers@musd.net. Scott reports there is great interest among California schools around this course with more than 30 teachers calling him to discuss the course.

Special thanks to Scott for sharing!
